Mitchell’s Double-Double Earns Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Award

first_imgFRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State forward Kai Mitchell is the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.  He scored a career-high 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Bearkats’ 75-61 road win over Rice on Sunday. Sam Houston State (9-4, 2-0 SLC) returns to conference play at McNeese at 7:30 p.m. Friday before hosting Nicholls at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The 2018-19 Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year enjoyed a hot start to the second half as well, scoring nine points in the first three minutes to give Sam Houston State a double-digit lead for good. This marks the second Player of the Week honor for Mitchell this season.
