Leafs deal for offence after acquiring Michael Rand from Bruins

first_imgHowever, the Leafs share the penthouse with the surging Beaver Valley Nitehawks after the defending KIJHL champs moved into a tie for the lead by edging Spokane Braves 2-1 at home Tuesday.Beaver Valley has a game in hand on Nelson heading into the weekend and will make up the contest December 29 when the Hawks complete a home-and-home series against Castlegar.Game one of the set goes Friday in the Sunflower City. For Nelson, the team has Grand Forks at home Friday before getting some much-needed rest.“We’re running two lines through all these games and everyone is getting tired,” said Leaf captain Aaron Dunlap.“As soon as the guys get back (from injuries) we’re going to be pretty hard to play against.”But Dunlap said the Leafs are not looking to far ahead to the holiday break. The team has a little unfinished business before enjoying some time away from the rink.“Grand Forks Friday has got to be a win going into the Christmas break,” Dunlap said.“And then those two against Beaver Valley when we come back are huge as well. But at least by that time we should have a couple more guys back from injury to help us out on the ice.”Leafs own BruinsThe Nelson Leafs meet the Grand Forks Border Bruins for the sixth time this season Friday at the NDCC Arena.Nelson is unbeaten against the Bruins in five games this season, out scoring Grand Forks 31-13.Grand Forks has lost 14 straight games dating back to a November 7 4-0 home-ice win over Columbia Valley.During that time Grand Forks has been out scored by a 74-25 margin. It’s a deal that has been in the works, from Nelson’s perspective, for at least . . . well, a very long time.Last week pen was put to paper as the Nelson Leafs acquired sniper Michael Rand from the Grand Forks Border Bruins for cash and future considerations.Rand joined the team this week and, ironically, plays his first game in the Green and White against his former teammates in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Friday at the NDCC Arena.“We think so, offensively, for sure,” said Leaf coach Dave McLellan when asked if the 6-foot, 170-pound forward from Langley is the answer to some of Nelson’s scoring woes.“(Michael) has been out for a while since he asked for a trade. But he’s a big body who can skate.“He’s a guy who can shoot the puck and that what we’re looking for. We wanted someone up front who could put the puck in the net.”The trade couldn’t have come at a better time for the Leafs as the team struggles to just put bodies on the ice since a rash of injuries took more than just a few key players out of the lineup. However, McLellan confesses management is not done acquiring players to help the Leafs make a playoff push.“We’re still trying to acquire a defenceman . . . that’s been an ongoing project,” McLellan said.“We’ll see by January 10th what we can find.”“One more forward would be what our wish list would be but another defenceman is a real priority if the right player comes available by January 10th.”Can’t wait for Christmas (break)Despite losing three of its last for games, the Nelson Leafs remain in top spot in the Neil Murdoch Division.last_img read more

Update on Lionel Messis injury ahead of El Clasico

first_imgTime to give you the latest on Lionel Messi’s injury ahead of next Wednesday’s El Clasico at Camp Nou, he didn’t practice with his teammates today. After FC Barcelona’s 2-2 draw against Valencia last Saturday, the major concern was with Lionel Messi and his physical state due to a muscular problem.During the second half of the game, the Argentine player wasn’t able to continue playing at his usual level after he suffered a blow on his right thigh from one of Valencia’s players and needed to get medical attention on the sidelines.Even after he received treatment on the affected area, Lionel Messi still wasn’t able to return to full beast-mode and the fans at Camp Nour were really worried because of the upcoming Copa del Rey Clasico that’s coming on Wednesday. The Catalan club has been determined to tell the press that he is not going to miss the match, but everybody was expecting him to come on Monday and see if he practiced alongside all of his teammates.Missing this first crucial match against Real Madrid on Wednesday could be catastrophic, Lionel Messi is arguably the most important player they have and his absence has proved to be detrimental for the Catalan club this season.#FCB 🔵🔴 | 🚨🚨🚨💥 Leo Messi no entrena con el grupo. Lionel wasn’t seen on the practice with the rest of the squad, he was told to remain at the gym throughout the whole session getting the proper treatment for recovery.Messi was spotted getting the proper recovery methods by two different physical therapists, the player did get an important knock on the right thigh and there is still no confirmation about his participation for next Wednesday.A report from Diario Sport suggests that the Catalan club has told everyone in the press that Messi will be 100% ready for El Clasico, but the images of him coming to practice and how worried he look to tell a different story.Messi will try to complete tomorrow’s training alongside his teammates exactly one day before the crucial match, his participation and the evolution of his pain will be the ones that decide whether he will be available for manager Ernesto Valverde or not.The Argentine is eager to play against Real Madrid, one of the favorite victims he’s had throughout his career. On this day in 2004, Messi signed his first professional contract.Top 5 Barcelona players to watch in the Champions League Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 13, 2019 With the Champions League about to start, we need to start talking about the Top 5 Barcelona players to watch in the competition. The UEFA…In the 15 years since:663 games581 goals246 assists33 trophies5 Ballons d’Or(via @brfootball) pic.twitter.com/PC18ICGNiE— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) February 4, 2019Dembele is back in full force for ValverdeAs we wait for whatever happens with Lionel Messi during the next couple of days, we have to give you all the good news that manager Ernest Valverde has completely recovered Frenchman Ousmane Dembele from the injury he suffered. To those who didn’t know, the young player missed the last four matches due to an ankle injury he suffered during the La Liga match against Leganes.Ankle injuries can be very tricky for dribblers like Dembele, which is why the manager decided to give him such an extended resting period in order to have him completely recovered for the Copa del Rey semifinals.Regardless of who the Catalan club was facing, it was evident that Dembele’s absence could affect the squad but not as much as Lionel Messi missing this upcoming game.We will keep you all posted on what happens with the Argentine, but chances are that he will get to play against Real Madrid without a problem.A victory for FC Barcelona at Camp Nou is very important if they want to play at the Bernabeu with a slight advantage, especially now that Real Madrid are playing amazing football compared to the start of the season. Most assists in Europe’s top five leagues so far this season:🇦🇷 Lionel Messi (10)🇧🇪 Eden Hazard (10)🇩🇪 Leroy Sané (9)🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Ryan Fraser (9)🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Jadon Sancho (9)🇩🇪 Joshua Kimmich (9)A fascinating collection. pic.twitter.com/qyA9mgVa55— Squawka Football (@Squawka) February 4, 2019How important is it for Barcelona to have Messi play against Real Madrid on Wednesday? first_imgFacebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppProvidenciales, TCI, December 23, 2016 – For seven years now, Maskanoo has taken over the Grace Bay strip in a festive street parade and island concert which draws thousands to the site.  Organizers and managers of the event:  Stacy Cox, with the TCHTA; Karen Whitt of the Palms Resort and David Bowen with Grace Bay Resorts gave a rundown of what visitors and residents can expect at the free celebration.“I also want to encourage you to come out in your masks. One of the trends that we’ve seen over the last couple of years is that many of the hotels actually have teams that come not to do the mask Junkanoo parade, but just with their costumes, their mask, their decorating, the guest are getting involved, the tourist are getting involved and their learning a lot about our culture and heritage here in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and that’s really what it’s all about. So it’s a fun event,” said Karen Whitt, Palms Resort.“One of the important things that we take seriously is security, as you know last year was flawless.  We want to thank the police and Dove Security.   We have twenty police and we have twenty security on the ground, also we have a number of securities at different locations to help protect the area.   We want to make sure that people, when you come here with the kids, don’t allow them to wonder in the dark areas.   Also we want to discourage underage drinking, there will be no bottles allowed, all drinks will be in plastic cups, but security will be at its best.   We want to discourage all of you who have a cooler and think you can come on board, not this year baby, keep your coolers home.”  David Bowen, Founder & Grace Bay Resorts“So we look forward to you the public being a part of Maskanoo 2016”  Stacy Cox, TCHTA Executive.  The TCHTA Maskanoo begins at 3pm and runs until Midnight in Grace Bay.
