‘Frustrated’ West Ham ace vows to keep starting spot after shock Arsenal chance

first_imgMatt Jarvis insists he is not thinking about a move away from West Ham and is determined to fight for his place in the first team. The winger has only started two Premier League games this season and has fallen down the pecking order following the summer arrivals of Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho. The 28-year-old became West Ham’s club record signing when he made a £7.5m move from Wolves back in August 2012 but has failed to show his best form at Upton Park.Sam Allardyce handed him a rare starting place for the Premier League game against Arsenal on Saturday and Jarvis is hoping he has done enough to stay in the team. When asked if he was considering a move elsewhere, Jarvis, who was linked with a move to QPR in January, told London 24: “I am not thinking about that. I am just concentrating on keeping my head down, working hard and trying to get into the team.“I still want to be a part of things here, you want to be playing at a top club, but the most important thing is playing and that is what you want to be doing.“It is frustrating for me, but we have a great squad and you just have to take it on the chin. It was an important game for me against Arsenal.“I haven’t played for a while so it was important to play well and show what I can do and hopefully I have done that. Hopefully, I did enough to stay in the team, that is the plan, that is what I need to do.“I have been waiting for my chance, so I was delighted to get picked against Arsenal and I thought I played well. It is tough to stay fit when you are not playing, but that is what you work hard for and do extra training for, to try and keep your sharpness up and make sure that when you get your chance, you can actually take it.” 1 Matt Jarvis [right] last_img read more
