With a win over Illinois State (13-14, 7-9 MVC), the Bulldogs claim their second outright MVC regular season title. The Bulldogs hold a three-game advantage over second-place Missouri State, and swept the season series with the Lady Bears. The last time Drake won back-to-back outright MVC regular season titles was 1996-97 and 1997-98. Sophomore Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) scored a game-high 24 points and was joined in double figures by Maddy Dean (Jordan, Minn.) with 15 points, Sammie Bachrodt (Wichita, Kan.) with 12 points, including 10 key points in the fourth quarter and Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.) with 10 points. Hittner made a career-high five three-pointers. Bachrodt added five steals, four assists and four steals. Dean just missed a double-double with nine rebounds to go with five assists. Greiner, who is from nearby Williamsburg, has played in 123 games in her four-year career and made her first career start at Evansville this season. Greiner, a deadly three-point shooter, has scored 425 career points, made 119 career three-pointers and holds a career three-point shooting clip of 41.2 percent. She led the MVC in three-point percentage her sophomore year at 43.0 percent. In her career, Greiner has helped Drake win 91 games, win its first MVC Tournament title in 10 years, make its first trip to the NCAA Tournament in a decade and claim back-to-back MVC regular season titles. Earlier this season, Drake rallied from its first halftime deficit in MVC action for a 65-58 win at Illinois State. The Redbirds held the Bulldogs to their lowest point total in league play. Illinois State lost at UNI, 66-48, Friday. Junior transfer Simon Goods is averaging a team-high 13.1 points per game. Following Sunday’s game, Drake hits the road for its final two regular season contests. First up for the Bulldogs will be a game at Loyola on March 1 at 7 p.m. followed by a visit to league newcomer, Valparaiso, March 3 at 3 p.m. for the regular-season finale.
